My Favourite Christmasy Films To Watch This Holiday Season

Love Actually (2003)

Absolutely favorite. A classic. Funny yet a few tears were dropped at some parts and just so cozy! I think we all can agree that Hugh Grant’s iconic dance scene was chef’s kiss and the soundtrack for this film is so good! I love it, in fact usually the day after I watch Love Actually, for my morning walks I only listen to the Love Actually soundtrack for a few days. Just for the vibes 🙂

Four Christmases (2008)

This film is about a couple who both have divorced families so they usually ditch visiting family every single holiday, and how they HAD to spend this year’s Christmas with all four at the same time. Well, not exactly at the same time but over a couple of days. It’s a feel-good, quite funny at times rom-com. It also has quite a few familiar faces. Starring Reese Witherspoon and Vince Vaughn.

The Grinch (2000)

Doesn’t need an introduction at all. The coziest film and full of nostalgia. Recently I listened to Sabrina Carpenter’s ‘Cindy Lou Who’ song and I realized that I had completely forgotten who Cindy Lou Who was! Anyways I guess ‘this the season soo… time to rewatch The Grinch again!

The Holiday (2006)

Just rewatched it today with my mum and nan. Adorable, light-hearted rom-com, full with a few sprinkles of emotions! The cast, director, soundtrack! Everything is just so great, well except the fact that the iconic cottage’s rooms (Iris’s home) actually don’t exist! They were all sets back in Hollywood!

Elf (2003)

Buddy the elf is my current favourite kid-friendly Christmas film! Will Ferrel is great and just so funny in general, so go and watch it now! PS: I wouldn’t reccomend recreating Buddy’s candy spagetti 😉

Our Little Secret (2024)

This is most likely a Christmas film you haven’t seen yet. A classic rom-com, easy to watch and full of some funny moments. Also Lindsay Lohan’s 2022 film, Falling For Christmas is very similar in vibes (not the story-line). However I really did like the intro to this film, when they started from 2014 to 2024 and showed us all that happened in the past 10 years. In conclution light-hearted, cute film.

Home Alone 1 & 2 (1990 & 1992)

The best film that is loved and can be enjoyed by the whole family. My favourite scene in the first film was the iconic ‘trap’ scene and in the second was when Kevin was wondering in Central Park. Very cute! And cozy ❤

While You Were Sleeping (1995)

I never thought that this was a Christmas film because of the film’s poster. That being said, it was a very cute Christmasy film. Quite funny as well. A hopelessly romantic Chicago Metro ticket booth worker, who is played by Sandra Bullock, is mistaken for a man whose in a coma. I won’t give any other details 🙂 Anyways this film was a little more slow/less stuff going on than Love Actually or Home Alone. So if you’re looking for a cozy, chill and romantic film to keep you warm, this is it.

Shrek The Halls (2007)

As a Shrek lover, I have a very vivid memory of watching this film as a child. Netflix, Apple TV either wasn’t invented then or it wasn’t too popular. Me, my mum, dad and sister always used to go to the CD/DVD rental places to rent or buy. I bought this and it absolutely altered my brain chemistry 🙂 Especially the enterance scene and Gingy 😉 It’s only a 30 minute film, so perfect to watch when decorating the cookies!

The Holdovers (2023)

A new(er) Christmasy film, surrounding three very different people when it’s Christmas time. I adore this film and I can’t believe I didn’t watch it any sooner. Also this film was the coming-out film for Dominic Sessa. And the amazingly talented Da’Vine Joy Randolph won an Academy Award for this film.

And a few others that I think are worth mentioning:

  1. Arthur Christmas (2011)
  2. Meet Me Next Christmas (2024)
  3. Last Holiday (2006)
  4. The Family Switch (2023) – this is a great one!
  5. A Christmas Carol (2009)
  6. Happiest Season (2020)

And now onto the one that I have never watched, hopefully this week I will get to it:

It’s a Wonderful Life (1946)

Really popular, especially in the US. I never watched it, however; it seems as it has become a classic for many people. The last 30 minutes is the best part is what many people say… So I’ll have to watch it and see for myself 😉

And I’d like to give two more bonuses:

BEST CHRISTMAS TV SHOWS:

Dash and Lily (2020)

I love this series so much! I can’t reccomend it enough. It’s a very cute, funny and a little sad(ish) TV show. The only down-side to it is that it is only 1 season! Do yourself a favor and just watch this. The funny suspense it has to it and the way it builds up… Just wonderful. GO AND WATCH IT NOW. I really do not want to give away ANYTHING so GO AND WATCH IT NOW!

Merry Happy Whatever (2019)

A 1 season sitcom which is cozy and funny. PG-13 so it’s great to watch with teens as well! It also has two of the most iconic People’s Princess’: Bridget Mendler and Ashley Tisdale! It only has 8 episodes, so you can literally finish it in a day. Me and my sister finished it when decorating and assembling a gingerbreadman house!

Thank you for reading, and I genuinely wish that you guys will enjoy some of these recomendations! ❤

Have a wonderful Christmas, New Year’s and 2025. <333
